The reason why some of your favorite artists were able to be successful is because they learned how to make money right now. I wanted to outline some ways to make money today as a music artist. Sometimes we get caught up with getting discovered that we forget that we can make money right now and make lots of it. You can even make money in the music field. Its going to take a little hustle but here are a few ideas.
1- Fundraisers are a great way to collect money for a good cause and that could be your music. You see kids selling candy on the train right? You would be surprised that some make 100's a day. I'm not saying you have to sell candy but there are tons of great fundraising ideas from coupon books to discount cards and more. Click here for ideas So getting a few kids together and buying some boxes of candy so they can sell it for you may not be a bad idea. Give them a portion of the money and use the rest for your music career. There was a teenager on the news saying he made $40,000 a year selling candy on the train. Again I'm not saying you have to sell candy but look how simple it can be to make money now. Think fundraising!
2- I know you don't have the funds to rent a venue for 5k but you do have free.99. You can find small venues like bars that can hold up to 150 people and have your event. Due to the fact that bars need paying customers and small bars mean, small marketing budget. The smaller the bar the lower the revenue so you can get it dirt cheap or even free if you let them get the bar. You can charge a small fee at the door, maybe $5-$10 and make sure the show is great. The key is to keep everything on a small scale and then save the money you make so you can get a bigger venue. You might start at 150 people but you could end up playing for a audience of thousands if you work at it.
3- Get out and sell your music hand to hand. You have a much better chance at selling your music hand to hand than online. The main thing is to look professional. Try to set up a small table with other merchandise if you can. Put your music on a nice flash drive. No more CD's those days are done. Sell packages with your flash drive and a nice tee with a cool logo. Now you look professional and people will take your much more serious.
4- Set up a blog and join google and other ad networks. Blogging is popular and you can make money today. It all depends on your personal hustle. The key to being a great blogger is being able to promote your posts. Promote a lot more than you post. If you spend a hour posting new content spend 2 hours promoting. Thats the key to success. Getting the link of the post promoted is more important than the post itself. You can set a goal for every post and that could be to place the link on at least 20 other sites. Then you can monitor that and see if its working. If not then trying placing it on 25 sites and so on.
5- Create a professional video and donation website. There are tons of websites you can use to help you create a donation site. The main thing is professionalism. The video should be clear and display your talents in a very clear way. If you are are music performer make the the video showcases your live shows and you in the studio recording. It must look like your dedicated to your career and that you are working very hard. 100's of artists have done this and raised upwards of $20,000 to make their music projects. The key again is professionalism, clear quality video.
I've worked with 100's of artists over my 10 year career and these ideas will work if you have the hustle.
